Can you hunt with sks
It would be good to hear from anyone who has successfully hunted with one. Mine is accurate enough but noisy to cock and the safety isn't really one. Would think that being close enough to the prey makes it too noisy to cock and you get spotted. However, just speculating, never hunted with mine. Makes a good camp gun for wolves. Full Curl Earl. The safety isn't terrible. But having a live round in any gun can be dangerous.
Be safe and hunt away, its not my choice for hunting, but work just fine. Watch the lube your using on the action when the cold weather hits. All times are GMT The time now is PM. User Name. Are there better choices out there? Will it get the job done anyway? You betcha. Back in the early 90's my grandpa bought a crate of them I think it worked out to 60 bucks a pop and gave them to the grandkids.
I hunted with mine from when it was stolen and I never lost a deer or a hog. I have used it in a Ruger Ranch rifle with good results I did the samething with my AR 15 but truth be told i'd hate to come up against a wallhanger just over yards and have a 7. Just saying. Most SKS I've shot have been remarkably accurate.
The downside for me is they're relatively heavy for their size and tend to encourage the use of shooting glasses to keep powder out of my eyes.
I have Tech Sights and a narrow front post on my Yugo and the thing is surprisingly accurate at yds even with my poor eye sight. The sks is more accurate than the ak As pointed out it is a heavy and long gun but you can hunt with it. The 7. The guns have changed a little since the first ones hit the market, due to laws being passed by liberal idiots trying to stop the guns from being sold, but the laws have only made the price go up, and the popularity of the guns to flourish.
At least every hunter I know locally has owned an SKS at one time or another and some own more than one to hunt with. The after market products for the rifle have made customizing the SKS very easy, from stocks of all shapes and configurations, to custom finishes, the options for personalization of an SKS is limitless.
It was an intermediate powered rifle that was manufactured in many of the former Eastern Bloc nations under various designations. It uses a short stroke gas piston self—loading action that fires one round every time you squeeze the trigger. Most came with a 10 round attached boxed magazine that could be fed with stripper clips, but many owners changed this feature to a detachable box magazine using after market parts.
Some later models made by Norinco in China had detachable box magazines, but they only held 5 shot clips. Contrary to the beliefs of many anti-gun liberals, this is not an assault weapon, it does not meet the criteria of a true assault weapon. It can be changed to meet the specifications of an assault weapon, but the original rifle does not fit the criteria.
The Russian SKS considered to be the best version of the rifle was only made from to after this the rifle was made in other countries such as China, Romania, and Yugoslavia. The only country to currently manufacture the rifle is Yugoslavia by the Zastava Armory. The most common versions of the rifle are the Norinco made in China, and the Yugoslavian version. Due to the inexpensive rifle AND the crates of cheap surplus ammo, many shooters get pretty proficient with their SKSs. First, the cartridge.
Even medium range is out of the question. The general rule of thumb is ft-lbs of energy for deer on impact, and most SKS ammunition will only take you out to yards with that in mind. If anyone gives you any guff about using the small cartridge, remind them that the shares similar ballistics.
