Thread starter skronker Start date Sep 14, Messages 5, I know there is a difference between the neck pocket of a strat and a tele.

Being that the tele neck is squared off and the strat pocket is rounded how much of an intonation problem would that cause. Some of this variance is due to the humidity when they were measured and some of it is due to manufacturing tolerances.

This implies the pocket is the same width. We have measured more Fenders than most people will see and these are their measurements. You should also measure this if you can. Aperio necks are built to 2. But due to the same factors the width can vary slightly. We tend to build them slightly oversize for a tighter fit in the pocket.

Humidity affects wood. When it is dry the pocket and neck shrink. When the pocket shrinks it gets bigger and when the neck shrinks the heel gets smaller. When the humidity is high the neck and pocket swell and just the opposite occurs, the pocket gets smaller or tighter and the neck heel gets bigger.

And to further complicate things the neck and body undergo this expansion and contraction at different rates due to the cut of the neck being either rift, flat or quarter sawn, the type of finish and different species of woods.

Did they all? Who knows? Oct 12, 2. Posts: That will work just fine, but the shown Strat pocket is still not 'deep' enough. Try to fit a Tele neck into it and you'll see you still need to chisel square that pocket a bit.. Oct 12, 3. Posts: 10, The mouse ears would give the neck corners somewhere to go, but the pocket side of the web is still curved, so there'd still be a tiny gap.

You could route the Strat neck pocket square like a Telecaster's. The Strat neck would still fit, and the pickguard will cover the gaps anyway. If it were me, I'd try the Telecaster neck in the Strat body without modifying anything first. The only real concern is that the nut will be a tiny fraction of an inch further from the bridge than it should be. As long as you've got that much room to move the saddles forward you won't have to change anything.

If you're using a TunaMatic bridge or similar you might have trouble, but if you're using any of the usual Fender type bridges you usually have tons of adjustment room. Oct 12, 4. I didn't want to have to plug and re-drill the neck, which I think I would have to do if I didn't modify the neck pocket. Last edited: Oct 13, Oct 13, 5. It may be easier to modify the headstock than the heel to make this work! Oct 13, 6.

It isn't about the headstock, it is about wanting a maple fretboard and only having tele necks available. Making an ear at either end of the neck pocket sounds easier than reshaping a head stock. It's not really makings a whole lot of sense to me.. Does anybody know for sure? Or is there someone out here on the interwebs that sells telecaster necks that already fit without modification?? To put a Strat neck on a Tele, you would need to rout the back of the pocket, but not on a Strat getting a Tele neck. Or, you could order it from Warmoth with a Strat heel Tele like it is , May 25, You sure? The Tele heel is flat so it fits into the rounded pocket, but with a gap Messages: 9, Yes, the tele neck nut will be too far back, for intonation, on a strat, due to the rounded neck pocket.
